An individual who laced candy with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a youth camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two children both between nine and ten.
The defendant was detained after eight youngsters and an older person experienced illness at the location in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from that region, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
However, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was held in detention prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
Ruben played a "candy game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She told the court the man had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She explained the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in recently.
The prosecutor continued: "This year his stepchild had concerns about the activities, for good reason.
"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel explained materials including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were found, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his suspicions.
She said the man proceeded to play the "candy game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"The police had not responded by that point," she stated further.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the incident.
The prosecutor stated the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member called the law enforcement once more.
She explained the defendant then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five youngsters.
