Catherine's Traditional Yuletide Service of Carols Spotlights Community Volunteers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her annual Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including award-winning actors.

Focusing on Compassion and Love

The focus of the event, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the concert.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Performance and Potential

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists backed by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the former royal to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the organisation, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
